Sep. 22nd, 2002 09:18 pmWell, we went to the christening/baptism thing today. Drove 2.5 hours, but it was very easy to find. In fact, we arrived rather early, and accidentally walked in on a mass in progress so we drove around the block to kill time. I'll admit, it felt a little weird being inside a church when it's been...oh...at least 10 years since I set foot in one, but it was pretty. Small, old fashioned in design, unpretentious. Anyway, it was a short ceremony, neither baby cried, and off we went to brunch.
Place we went to was called the Trackside Inn, or the Railway Inn or something. Back in the 1800's it was a depot and was later converted into a restaurant. The food was pretty good, and I kept wishing that I'd brought my camera to take a picture of the restaurant and the passing trains (Amtrak).
All in all, it was a tiring day, and somewhat depressing. I'll admit that we've kind of drifted away from the friends, it's inevitable when you live over an hour away and have somewhat non-compatible schedules,(and if you're a reclusive hermit like me, that makes it worse) but now with the children...They've moved on to a new facet of their life, and is there really still a place for one such as I, who is well known for being uncomfortable around/flat out avoiding contact with children.
Heck, I'm afraid to hold the kids. Big klutz like me would probably drop them. *sigh* I do not begrudge them this choice, kids are what they've wanted for a while whereas I strongly doubt that I will ever have a child. Just not 'wired' for it.
They'll be doing sleepovers, and parties, and school picnics, and trick-or-treating, and all sorts of stuff.
*sigh*
