The Hobbit, part 1

Well, I just got back from seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey and I can honestly say I quite enjoyed it. Although it was nearly 3 hours in length it never felt like that while watching, truly I could have sat there another few hours and been content. I still don't think it's necessary to tell the story in three movies, but eh...it was still well done, even with the added on bits.

However, I have two main complaints, those being that on occasion the music drowned out the dialogue, and the second being the voice of the Chief Goblin. While a perfectly good voice, done by Barry Humphries (who played Dame Edna, among other characters) it just didn't fit the design of the creature. It needed, to me at least, to be a bit more...well...disgusting and gurgly and such

and one geek-squee, in that I had no idea (or else I'd forgotten) that Sylvester McCoy was in the movie! He played Radagast the Brown. The 7th Doctor playing a rather off-kilter old wizard. Whee!

Of course, it ended just as we both figured it would. Still, yay!
