One of the many fun things about Bioshock Infinite is the "old-timey" covers of more modern songs. I just encountered this one in a bar. Took me a minute to recognize it under the random other stuff happening in the room. :)

Pika, Pika.

Because I am a dork I downloaded Pokémon Go. While walking around to see if any were near my house, I spied a chipmunk on my front step. Little bastard wouldn't go in the Pokéball, though. ;) But I did catch a Bulbasaur, so yay. Stupid Squirtle was in the middle of the road, and the Charmander was in the neighbour's yard. 'course I learn after grabbing the Bulbasaur, and then the servers going phooey, that you only need to be within 20 feet of your target to try and catch it. Next time, Charmander, I'll get you next time....

In other gaming, Bioshock Infinite is a pretty, pretty game. My graphics card is a little old, even with up to date drivers, Steam still yells at me when I load the game. So I dialed back the quality a bit and happily even at Medium graphics quality it's purty. The one thing I do not really like is the save function. I'm used to saving...pretty much constantly in a game. This one saves at certain points that I can't control. But that's a minor quibble, at most.

Oooh, hello there free Half-Life 2 mod. *yoinks* You other games will have to wait, mama's got a new distraction
mooncat_chelion: (girl gamer)
Hm, Half Life 2 and Borderlands are both on sale on Steam for under $5 each. Almost too good to pass up, even if I suck at first-person shooter formats.

So far, Portal 2 is fun. Some neat new challenges and I really like the setting, etc. Am about 12 or so levels in, so have a little bit to go, yet. Trying not to rush but I keep wanting to solve each room as quickly as possible so that I can see the next room, and so on.

Ugh, so I've been playing Injustice: Gods Among Us on my phone, yay smash-em-up fighting game and I cannot for the life of me figure out how to use this upgrade card I got in a booster pack. Ah well, *mashes more foes with Solomon Grundy*

So last night I downloaded a free "Escape the room" game on my phone and amused/annoyed myself with it for a while. Now, I'd like to play others, anyone have any good suggestions? I've found a few online but am curious what others might be out there.

Been kind of bummed since last night, when I learned that City of Heroes will be shut down at the end of November. Now, I know it's "just a game" but still, it was -my- game, one I spent countless hours on, talking to people, playing, enjoying the content and most of all, the community. 5 years of my life were invested in this game, it was my stress relief, my outlet for role-play and creativity and I am sad to see it go, and angered at the abrupt announcement by the owners, NCSoft. Even the development team at Paragon Studios, who work on the game, didn't know this was coming.

The game was still making money up until the announcement, but it seems, not enough. Instead of axing other products that lost money, this one gets the boot. Even after it went free to play, I kept my paid subscription, because I loved the game so much, as did many other players. Heck, the game's profits went up a little after it went FTP, thanks to the in-game market system.

I came to the "City" just before my other beloved game, a MUD my husband and I owned for 10 years, closed down, so this hits kind of hard. My characters were my creations, their 'lives' important and rich with the roleplay I was lucky enough to participate in. I know all things must end, but dammit, I had so many plans, so many stories yet to be experienced and told. I plan to spend the next few months playing the hell out of the game, and enjoying it while I can.

I don't know if I want to get involved in another MMORPG after this. I probably will, just to have something to play, but it will never be the same.

And to you, NCSoft, you will never see another penny of my money ever again, nor will you likely see any from the majority of the player base.

A friend of mine pointed me towards this: Code Hero, a video game that teaches people to make video games. It has a Kickstarter campaign that may not succeed, so I thought I'd boost the signal.

I finally broke down and made an account on Steam, prompted by [livejournal.com profile] feylan gifting me with Mass Effect, since he decided I "must play it". So far, I'm liking it. Takes a bit getting used to the controls, since I'm used to City of Heroes, but it's been fun. I still suck at combat, too many buttons to remember which does what as opposed to a click-based attack system, but that'll improve.

This could potentially be as addicting as Knights of the Old Republic was for me when that came out.

Yesterday, I bought Okamiden, a sequel to Okami for the DS. It's, to me anyway, just as addictive as the first one. I'm about 8 hours into it, and had to take a break just to rest my eyes a bit.

An amusing observation: bad accents are contagious. :)

Last night we started our new D&D campaign, and my character, a 3'6" tall anthro cat Ranger/Bounty Hunter type speaks in a voice that....at best guess is a mix of Inigo Montoya and Apu. Hee.

Owie, woke up with a headache. Either the weather's changing or the migraine cycle's about to re-start. I'm hoping it's the weather.

Well, today is the start of our new game, using 3.5 edition D&D. A larger group than our previous game, thanks to the addition of two old friends, one of whom will be our new GM.

Guess I need to figure out what my character's name is, eh? :)
