Just sent in my registration to Anthrocon, and managed to goof it up a little. Bleh. Sent an email to registration to hopefully get it corrected.

Edit: and it was fixed. Yay!

*Well there's certainly nothing like going food shopping at 4:30PM on a summer Monday to slam you back into 'reality' after a Convention weekend. There is not enough Oy in the world to describe the stupid I found there, but I digress....*

Long-ass con report )

tl;dr version: Anthrocon. I came, I saw, I bought stuff, ate good food, walked a shitload of miles (probably) and had fun. I also apparently look like I know what I'm doing as I had several people stop me and ask directions or other assorted things.
mooncat_chelion: (smilodon me)
Well, since the convention looms upon the horizon, I might as well get this posted:

Where will you be most of the time during the day/s?
Most likely wandering about the hotel and dealer's den and art show. I might venture out into Pittsburgh itself to do some photography, and plan to eat at Primanti Brothers at least once. Sammiches of doom!

I'm really, really shy, to the point where it interferes with my functioning properly in social settings so if I seem jumpy or babble or wander off abruptly...that's why. I mean on offense or slights by it.

Where are you staying?
The Westin. The Omni was lovely last year but the mate expressed an interest in being in the main hotel again so there we are.

Who will you be with?
Whoever lets me tag along, and at times, the mate, who is not a fur but puts up with me. :)

Do you do free art?
I might doodle something here and there, but over the past few years, I've really let what talent I had get rusty.

Do you do trades?
The idea has appealed to me, but I'd be reluctant at this point until I get back to the art level I want.

Do you do commissions?
See above two responses.

Do you have prints/CDs?
Nope.

Do you do badges?
Nope

What is your gender?
Female

How old are you?
Mentally, chronological or behaviourally? This body of mine's been kicking around for some 40 odd (and not so odd) years, but some days it feels like 400. oog.

Can I touch you?
Depends on how well I know you and if I'm in panic mode. I'm a little particular about personal space. A friendly tap on the arm or shoulder is fine, hugs will depend on mood, surprise glomps or tickling -will- result in my elbow or foot being rammed into someplace sensitive until I sort out who it was that did it.

Can I talk to you?
Sure, but as previously stated, I'm very shy and crowds freak me the hell out so I might be weird. Well, weirder than normal. I also have short-term memory issues, so I tend to forget names. Again, I mean no offense by this.

This does not mean that I dislike talking to others, far from it. I just have problems approaching you and initiating the conversation. By all means, say hi if you feel so inclined.

Other pertinent info:
We will be arriving Thursday afternoon, leaving Monday morning.

Due the aforementioned social anxiety, and the fact that my glasses prescription is(still)out of date, I might not see you at first, so don't think I just walked past you on purpose. My brain is probably elsewhere, especially if I have my earbuds in.

I'll have with me either one of my two messenger bags: a black and grey Defenders of Wildlife or a greenish and black canvas Sierra Club model, and depending on mood might be wearing my lion tail, or another if I buy one. I stand about 5'6", wear glasses, am IrishPale (ie damn near translucent), have medium brown hair cut into a slightly above the shoulders....not-quite-bob-thing, and am still on the chunkier side of pudgy (still working on that, I gained back most of what I had previously lost but not giving up). At least one of my badges will be the one pictured in my icon, by [livejournal.com profile] the_gneech, yay :). I also might be wearing my light blue collar with crystal-ish sparkles. Cos I like it.

This year, like last year, time and weather permitting, I might be wandering outside the hotel and convention areas, doing the photography thing. I'm not often in cities, and Pittsburgh has a nice photogenic feel to it, for me anyway. I might also be sitting outside, blowing bubbles because...well, bubbles!

Around 12:45pm today I clocked out for a quick lunch and to make my hotel reservations for Anthrocon. Much to my surprise, the Westin was already sold out, as was the Courtyard. In the words of my favourite foul-mouthed tv Lieutenant: Holy Fuckballs. So, I'll be at the Omni this year. I've never stayed there before. I hope it's nice.
mooncat_chelion: (sleepy)
Well, just got back about 25 minutes ago, we made record time too, Pittsburgh to home (nearish to Atlantic City) in just under 6 hours, including two brief stops. (That's about 350 miles)

All in all it was a pretty good weekend. Saw [livejournal.com profile] u_t_tiger briefly, hope I didn't interrupt your conversation too terribly. Also managed to bump into [livejournal.com profile] torakiyoshi for a bit, along with [livejournal.com profile] rmoorcat, [livejournal.com profile] coyoty, Earl McClaw, and thanks to my sucky memory, I can't remember who else. Sorry I wasn't more interesting, folks, my shyness is at times crippling.

Friday I had the chance to wander about a little bit and take some pictures, although it was rather overcast. We (meaning TK and group) also had the chance to watch Nik Wallenda walk a tightrope across the Allegheny river that evening. Apparently, his next big gig will be to walk across the Grand Canyon 0_o.

Also finally got the chance to sample the wares of the Steel City Diner and Fernando's, places I intend to return to next year, along with Primanti Brothers, a traditional eating stop of the mate and myself. They were quite crowded, though both were narrow and long, likely not used to the crowds that the convention can draw. Both had excellent food at reasonable prices, and as a perk, as Supersponsors, we were given coupons for those establishments.

Saturday was spent milling about, attending the Supersponsor luncheon, which was different this year, as it was presented in a buffet style. The food was good, and hopefully the luncheon will follow the same format next year as well. Caught a couple of panels and went to bed.

Today we made one last stop in the Dealer's Room...a much improved space compared to the previous years. The aisles were wider so it wasn't as claustrophobic as before. Yay. Bumped into TK again for a moment, then we headed out, grabbed a parting lunch at Primanti's and la...we are home.

Oh, as to the other tag on this post. On the way back, I spied some amusing grafitti in the Women's bathroom at one of the rest stops along I-76. "I wrote on this wall, take that society". Honestly, I don't think society cared much, but it amused me. Also sharing wallspace in the stall was the phrase "Jesus is Lord". Somehow, I don't think he'd be too keen on the writer's choice of location and format for spreading the sentiment.

Anthrocon Dos, Don'ts, whys, wherefores and whatsits, etc.

-To find me, look in secluded corners for the twitching mass of nerves. Well, not really, but yeah, I'm a nervous wreck in large gatherings. I might not see you at first, so don't think I just walked past you on purpose. My brain is probably elsewhere, especially if I have my earbuds in.

-I'm a little weird about physical contact. Surprise glomps and the like will probably result in my elbow lodged somewhere in your person that you'd rather it not be. I once smacked a friend's glasses clear across the room because he tickled me. Handshakes, taps on the arm, and such are all fine, hugs...if I know you, or otherwise feel inclined to do so.

-I'll have my ever-present grey backpack, and depending on mood might be wearing my lion tail, or another if I buy one. I stand about 5'6", wear glasses, am IrishPale (ie damn near translucent), have medium brown hair freshly cut into an above the shoulders....not-quite-bob-thing, and am on the chunkier side of pudgy (this last year and a half's assorted stress and annoyances were not kind to my get in better shape attempts, bleh. Though I do plan to resume healthier eating habits and exercise routines after the Con). At least one of my badges will be the one pictured in my icon, by [livejournal.com profile] the_gneech, yay :). I also might be wearing my light blue collar with crystal-ish sparkles. Cos I like it.
